Being in the military, no one ever supports going to sick-call/TMC (in fact, it was the opposite); no one talks about VA disability ratings, but once soldiers come home with injuries and conditions, they realize they NEED assistance.
During my combat deployment to Iraq, I received a Traumatic Brain Injury due to an explosion, and once I came home and tried filing my packet, I realized just how much I didn't know. I didn't know who to contact, what forms to fill out, or the process timeline; I wasn't even sure what the process was. I poured hours and hours into research. I dedicated months to the straightforward purpose of understanding the VA Disability and Compensation program. I spoke to VA Reps, VSO Officers, and even veterans with their own ratings. I became obsessed with mastering everything about VA Disabilities and Claims. Finally, my knowledge was ready to test, and I was better than myself. I began a second process to remedy the poor rating given to me after my first packet, which was done through the VSO. After hours of work and a couple of months of C&P Exams, I finally received the RIGHT rating I was qualified for.
Soldiers from my unit heard of my newly found talent, and the requests for help became overwhelming. I spent endless days and nights working with veterans, each shocked by the benefits they are eligible for and each a success in receiving the rating they deserve.
This led to the ultimate birth of Veteran's Disability Claims LLC -- Where veterans help veterans.
